Description
This is an expansive collection of United States military ephemera, personal records, and commemorative items, with a primary focus on the United States Marine Corps across several decades. The central piece is an oval wooden wall plaque featuring a hand-tooled leather inset of the Iwo Jima flag raising, bordered by brass-tone decorative tacks. A significant portion of the lot consists of service-related records belonging to R.P. Mason, including several spiral-bound USMC Rifle Marksmanship Data Books documenting training with the M-14 rifle at bases such as MCRD, Kaneohe, and Camp Pendleton between 1968 and 1979, alongside a handwritten summary card. An earlier WWII-era USMC Rifle Score Book for the Springfield rifle is inscribed to Charles W. Butterworth. The collection features various period publications including a 1941 Army Song Book, a 1946 pamphlet titled Going Back to Civilian Life, a pictorial training guide for Camp Pendleton titled U.S. Marines on the way to Vietnam, and a 1980 NBC Warfare Defense tactical guide from Quantico. Additional ephemera include a 50th Anniversary VFW program from Newark, Ohio, commemorative Medal of Honor cards for Captain Joe Ronnie Hooper, and a souvenir postcard booklet for Camp Lejeune. International interest items include a Soviet Salve cigarette pack from the Odessa Tobacco Factory and a Soviet Avion matchbox.
Wooden plaque: 18 in x 12.5 in. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. But, we are not able to guarantee authenticity or era of items in the sale. Pickup is Wednesday, July 15, from Noon to 5 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
