Description
A collection of twelve printed items consisting of reproduction posters and military rank charts mounted on dark-colored composite or metallic backing boards. The collection primarily focuses on United States Marine Corps (USMC) and United States Army recruitment and organizational themes from the World War I and World War II eras.
The USMC items include recruitment posters featuring a Marine in field gear with a pith helmet and M1903 rifle, an eagle over a map of the United States titled Defend America, and two posters depicting Marines in Dress Blues. Also included is a World War I style poster referencing the battle of Chateau Thierry, a decorative print of Marines with the National Colors, and a poster for the 1949 motion picture Sands of Iwo Jima. One item is a graphite-style sketch of Marine infantrymen.
The US Army items feature the iconic I Want You recruitment poster by James Montgomery Flagg. Educational charts in the collection include a comprehensive guide to US Army officer and enlisted insignia, including rank chevrons, cap insignia, and specialty badges, as well as a dedicated chart for USMC enlisted rank insignia.
These items are modern commercial reproductions characterized by a glossy or laminated finish and an absence of age-related wear such as foxing, paper acidity, or fold lines. The boards are designed for display on a slatwall system. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. But, we are not able to guarantee authenticity or era of items in the sale. Please carefully look at all photos (up to 100 in some cases on our in-house platform) to judge for yourself what you are buying. All sales are final. Our in-house shipping is available. Pickup is Wednesday, July 15, from Noon to 5 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
