Description

This is an early-production United States Marine Corps M1 steel helmet set. The steel shell features fixed chinstrap loops, known as fixed bales, and a stainless steel front-seam rim, which indicates production between 1941 and late 1943. It is fitted with a first-pattern reversible frog skin camouflage cover, distinguished by the absence of stitched foliage slits. The cover is currently oriented with the beach pattern tan and brown side outward. The interior contains a high-pressure fiber liner featuring a manufacturer crown mark in the crown, attributed to Westinghouse or Firestone. The suspension system is made of Olive Drab No. 3 Herringbone Twill webbing. Components include an adjustable leather sweatband, a nape strap, and a brown leather liner chinstrap. The original canvas chinstraps of the steel shell are present and wrapped over the brim. One of the interior suspension straps bears the stamped or handwritten characters J M W.
