Description
This lot features an original US M1 combat helmet complete with its liner and a first-pattern United States Marine Corps (USMC) reversible camouflage cover. The steel helmet shell is equipped with swivel chinstrap bales, a design modification introduced in late 1943. The fabric cover is the first-pattern USMC frog skin or duck hunter reversible variant, identified by the absence of foliage slits or buttonholes found on later models. The cover is currently fitted with the tan beach side facing out. The interior features a plastic/fiber helmet liner with an olive drab cotton webbing suspension system secured by A-washers. This suspension includes a leather-faced sweatband attached with metal clips. The helmet is fitted with a post-World War II olive drab web chinstrap featuring black-finished metal hardware and a T-1 style ball-and-hook pressure release buckle, typical of the Korean War era. One of the interior suspension straps features a vertical handwritten inscription in black ink reading U S M C. Faint, degraded white markings are also present on the interior of the liner. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. But, we are not able to guarantee authenticity or era of items in the sale. Pickup is Wednesday, July 15, from Noon to 5 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
