Description
This is a complete United States Army Air Forces aviator headgear assembly from the late World War II to early Cold War transition era. The set includes a Type A-11 leather flight helmet, a Type A-14 demand oxygen mask, and Type AN-6530 flight goggles. The intermediate weight brown leather helmet features a chamois lining and was manufactured by The Selby Shoe Co. The interior identification label is clearly legible and reads: TYPE A-11, SPECIFICATION 3189, SIZE – LARGE, STOCK NO. 8300-396010, CONT. NO. W33-038AC-3172, THE SELBY SHOE CO., PROPERTY A.F. U.S. ARMY. A black ink stamp of the Army Air Forces winged star insignia is visible on the interior. The helmet is fitted with external black rubber receiver covers and internal ANB-H-1 earphones, connected to a brown fabric-covered communications cord with a red PL-354 plug. The Type A-14 oxygen mask is constructed of olive drab molded rubber and includes a corrugated breathing tube. The facepiece is embossed with: DEMAND OXYGEN MASK TYPE A-14 MEDIUM. The Type AN-6530 goggles feature chrome-finished metal frames, amber-tinted glass lenses, and a chamois-lined face cushion. The central bridge is stamped AN 6530.
