Description
This lot consists of a United States military M1 steel combat helmet featuring a reversible Mitchell pattern camouflage cover and a matching interior liner. The cloth cover is extensively personalized with hand-inked period graffiti and illustrations typical of the Vietnam War era. Inscriptions include the phrases Death Dealers, Short Timer, Mad Mike, and Sat Cong. Illustrated elements include a stylized Ace of Spades Death Card, a circular peace symbol, a human skull with blood droplets, the Peanuts comic strip character Snoopy depicted wearing a combat helmet, and an Ohio State Buckeyes collegiate logo. A hand-drawn calendar for the month of February is present with the date 20 encircled in red ink. The helmet shell is equipped with an olive drab canvas chinstrap featuring a T-1 pressure-release metal buckle. This hardware bears an embossed anchor symbol, the manufacturer mark for North and Judd. The interior includes a brown fiberglass liner with olive drab canvas webbing, a leather sweatband, and a leather nape strap. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. But, we are not able to guarantee authenticity or era of items in the sale. Pickup is Wednesday, July 15, from Noon to 5 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
