Description
This collection features an assortment of vintage decorative buttons systematically organized across six labeled display cards for classification and study. These items are buttons representing a diverse range of 20th-century manufacturing techniques and materials. The collection is divided into specific categories: acrylic, cellulose acetate, polymer embellished, acrylic shot, encased, and hologram. The acrylic section includes buttons with floral and avian inclusions, such as owls and roses, with some specimens attributed to Smiths Manufacture. The cellulose acetate group features trade names including Tenite, Rhodoid, and Lumerith, displaying various swirl, geometric, and layered patterns. The polymer group consists of base buttons embellished with materials such as leather, jute, and canning fabric. The acrylic shot buttons feature molded, high-relief floral and pansy shapes with applied color. The encased category includes clear domes containing loose seeds or fibers, described as being in a case with air. The hologram group features buttons with iridescent and light-refracting properties.
