Description

This collection features antique black glass buttons dating to the 19th century, systematically mounted on four separate display boards for archival or exhibition purposes. These items are buttons that exhibit a wide range of decorative styles, including floral, geometric, and textured motifs, with many featuring faceted surfaces, molded designs, or bead-like borders. The specimens are primarily crafted from molded black glass, with some examples incorporating metallic or paste elements. The buttons are arranged in circular, diamond, and grid patterns on various backings, including gold-toned textured paper and neutral cardstock. Handwritten annotations on the boards identify specific types such as Steel CUT, Pinwheel, Paste OME, and Metal OME, while printed labels designate portions of the group as MECHANICAL MAKE-UP BLACK GLASS and DIV I BLACK GLASS.
