Description
This collection of buttons is primarily composed of black glass, featuring various 19th and early 20th-century manufacturing techniques. The assortment is organized across four labeled display cards: Big Beautiful Black Glass, Enamel and Monochrome (Fired) Polychrome on Black Glass, Frames & Fabric in Black Glass, and Glass w/ Inlay. The buttons exhibit a range of decorative treatments including molded relief designs, cameos, faceted surfaces, and hand-painted polychrome enamel work depicting floral and faunal motifs. Additional technical elements include gold and silver luster finishes, acid-etched patterns, and inlays of shell or metal. Several buttons are identified by handwritten notes on the mounting cards, referencing specific styles such as salt glazed, luster, and mirrored finishes.
