Description
A collection of molded celluloid and early plastic toys and novelties, primarily of Japanese origin and dating to the mid-20th century. The group features a large articulated doll in a hooded yellow outfit with red accents, a reclining tabby cat with a red ribbon, and a variety of avian figures including peacocks on pedestals and pheasants. Also included is a small steamship with red funnels, a clown figure seated on a ball, a standing clown, and several miniature character figurines, pins, and rattles. One item is a wooden-handled tool with a hen-head finial, printed with advertising for The Parisian Company of Detroit for Exclusive Apparel for Women, Misses and Children. Several pieces bear molded marks including MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN and JAPAN accompanied by various geometric maker logos. The collection includes pieces attributed to Japanese manufacturers of the post-war era.
