Lot 189:
Description
Two Cabinet card style photographs taken at the Shiloh Battlefield most likely during the 2nd Shiloh Battlefield Association Reunion in April 1895. The first image bears a photographer’s imprint and caption on the front, “F. Head Mexico Mo.” “Only house left standing on Battle Ground. Built in the 40’s. 1 mile East, Shiloh Church, Close to the Old Peach Orchard”. The second image has a browned ink inscription on the back, “The Present Shiloh Church”. These two images are from a group of 18 Shiloh related images found together. The photographer on the unidentified image was also most likely F. Head of Mexico, Missouri. The images each measure 7″ x 4.5″ and are affixed to 8″ x 5″ mats. NOTE: These two photographs are from a group of 18 Shiloh Battlefield – Reunion related photographs found together. The other images are listed in lots . While neither image in this lot is dated and the image of the Shiloh Church does not bear a photographer’s imprint, we believe that both of these photos were taken by F. Head of Mexico, Missouri at the 1895 Shiloh Battlefield reunion. We base this on the following; Most of the 18 images are the same size and are mounted on identical mats. The only photographer listed on any of these images which bear photographer imprints is F. Head of Mexico, Missouri. Finally, any of the photos which are dated bear dates from April 1895; the time frame of the reunion.
