Description
A World War II-era U.S. Army sweetheart souvenir pillow cover with its original kraft paper mailing envelope. The pillow cover is constructed from blue satin-finish acetate or rayon fabric and features a wide, knotted yellow fringe border. The face is screen-printed with multi-colored graphics and text. Graphics include a green U.S. Army eagle crest, an orange Willys-style jeep with occupants, an orange tank, and a border of green stars. Bold orange text reads U.S. ARMY and CAMP RUCKER ALABAMA. The center features a sentimental poem titled MOTHER and DAD printed in white.
The poem reads:
MOTHER and DAD

ABOUT THE SMILES AND TEARS WEVE HAD

The included mailing envelope provides specific provenance for the item. The return address is handwritten: Pvt. George Nebesink Jr. 33929625, Hq. Btry. 761st. F.A. Bn. (Headquarters Battery, 761st Field Artillery Battalion), Camp Rucker, Ala. It is addressed to Mr. and Mrs. George Nebesink, 315 Park Ave., Clairton, Penna. The envelope retains a purple 3-cent United States postage stamp featuring an eagle in a V for Victory shape with the text WIN THE WAR and a partial Alabama postmark.
