Description
This lot consists of three original staple-bound softcover technical manuals issued by the United States War Department during the early years of World War II. These manuals provided technical instructions for ordnance personnel and troops regarding the maintenance, safety, and identification of small arms and ammunition.
The first manual is TM 9-1295, titled Ordnance Maintenance – Pistols and Revolvers, dated December 29, 1941. This manual contains detailed technical instructions for the maintenance of military handguns, featuring exploded diagrams and parts lists for the Colt and Smith and Wesson M1917 .45 caliber revolvers. The cover bears a printed notice regarding distribution and a circular ink stamp reading RECEIVED APR 18 1942 ORDNANCE OFFICE G. M. P. LA.
The second manual is TM 9-2210, titled Instruction Guide – Small Arms Accidents, Malfunctions, and Their Causes, dated July 11, 1942. Prepared under the direction of the Chief of Ordnance, this guide serves as a safety and diagnostic reference. It includes photographs of catastrophic failures in U.S. M1903A1 rifles resulting from brittle steel, bore obstructions, and the use of incorrect ammunition. The top right corner of the cover is inscribed in ink V. J. Carpantier.
The third manual is TM 9-1990, titled Small-Arms Ammunition, dated May 23, 1942. This comprehensive reference covers various calibers including .22, .30, .45, and .50 caliber rounds. It contains ballistic tables, identification charts for ball, armor-piercing, tracer, blank, and dummy rounds, and technical diagrams of cartridge case defects. The top right corner of the cover is inscribed in ink J. P. Bill, M. D. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos.
