Description

This five-button fatigue or sack coat is constructed from navy blue wool and follows the M1883 pattern. The garment features a standing collar and two white wool inverted chevron service stripes on each lower sleeve, indicating two enlistment terms within the infantry branch. Each cuff is adorned with three smaller brass buttons, while the front is secured by five large buttons. All buttons are the standard General Service pattern featuring an eagle with a shield. The interior is partially lined with white cotton muslin. The lining bears several identifying markings, including the stenciled initials W.S.M. in black ink in multiple locations and the handwritten name W Morton in purple ink. A faint, circular stamp is visible on the interior lining but remains illegible due to fading. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos.
