Description
A US military M-1969 fragmentation protective body armor vest, commonly referred to as a flak vest, used during the Vietnam War. This specimen was manufactured under contract DSA 100-69-C-1785 by Milcom Products Inc., dating its production to fiscal year 1969.
The vest features a ballistic nylon outer shell in Olive Drab. It is designed with a protective 3/4 collar containing ballistic filler to guard the neck area against fragments. The front of the vest closes with a heavy-duty metal zipper, which is protected by a storm flap secured with snap fasteners. Two chest pockets are present, each equipped with snap-fastened flaps, and feature web hanger straps located directly above them. The sides are adjustable via eyelet laces with the original olive drab cords intact. The back waist area is elasticized.
Two printed cloth instruction and identification labels are sewn onto the inner lining.

This label also features a faded blue circular ink stamp with the number 39.

This Armor may save your life! When properly worn, it will protect vital areas against shell and grenade fragments which cause most combat casualties.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. WEAR ARMOR OVER SHIRT AND UNDER FIELD JACKET.
