Description
An assortment of horse equipment and field gear from the late 19th century, characteristic of the Indian Wars era. The group centers on a Western-style stock saddle featuring tooled leather borders, a prominent horn, and a high cantle, complete with wooden stirrups and leather tapaderos. Included accessories consist of a canvas-covered canteen with a stamped U.S. mark, a smaller secondary canteen in a leather case, a pair of leather saddlebags, a rolled red wool field blanket, a canvas horse feed bag stamped U.S., a coiled natural fiber lariat, a woven wool saddle blanket with a geometric pattern, and a canvas-topped felt saddle pad. The leather components are constructed of heavy hide with metal buckle and ring hardware. No manufacturer marks were identified on the saddle leather.
