Description
This expansive collection of military memorabilia focuses primarily on the United States Marine Corps (USMC), featuring shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI), enlisted rank chevrons, and uniform hardware spanning the mid-to-late 20th century. Unit patches include the 1st through 6th Marine Divisions, Fleet Marine Force Pacific (FMF-PAC), 5th Reconnaissance Battalion (Silent, Swift, Deadly), and the Aleutian Task Force/Task Force 68 insignia. The lot also contains a set of three U.S. Army 2nd Infantry Division Indian Head patches on red, orange, and black wool backgrounds. A contemporary collector reproduction of a USMC Raider Battalion patch is included in its original retail packaging.
The group includes a significant volume of USMC enlisted rank chevrons in various color schemes and materials, including green on red wool (service), yellow on red (dress blue), gold on tan (khaki), and white on white (utility). These represent both the pre-1959 and post-1959 (with crossed rifles) rank systems.
Uniform hardware consists of a large quantity of metal and plastic USMC buttons featuring the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor motif. Finishes include gilt, blackened bronze, and olive drab plastic. Identifiable maker marks on button reverses include Waterbury Button Co. Conn. Attachment styles include standard sew-on, screw-back, and cotter-pin shanks. Additional items include an olive drab fabric service cap cover and an American Red Cross First Aid patch.
