July Military Auction
Lot 25150:
Description
This collection consists of an assortment of US military insignia and related ephemera, primarily representing Army Special Operations and Navy SEAL units from the Vietnam War through the late 20th-century Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) era. The grouping includes embroidered cloth shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI), qualification patches, unit tabs, felt beret flashes, and one printed paper decal.
Army Special Forces items include arrowhead SSI in both full-color (yellow and blue) and subdued (black and olive drab) variants. The 1st Special Forces Command is represented by a subdued shield-shaped SSI featuring a horse head and lightning bolt. A 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) beret flash is included, constructed of red, yellow, and black felt with a metal Distinctive Unit Insignia pinned to the center bearing the motto DE OPPRESSO LIBER. A subdued shield-shaped patch featuring a winged dagger is also present.
The collection features a printed paper decal for the Mobile Strike Force (MIKE Force), an unconventional warfare unit from the Vietnam War. The decal depicts a skull and crossbones over the letters M.F. within a shield. It bears the Vietnamese text DOI BIET KICH LOI CONG and is marked MIMURA YOKO and MF-1 at the bottom.
Other specialized insignia include a large rectangular subdued US Navy SEAL Trident (Special Warfare) patch, a circular subdued Jungle Expert patch featuring a panther head, and a rectangular subdued Master Army Aviator badge with pilot wings, star, and wreath. The lot is completed by various full-color and subdued tabs for SPECIAL FORCES and AIRBORNE, a standard olive drab U.S. ARMY name tape with black embroidered text, and two small green felt rectangular flash backings.
