Description

A diverse group of military insignia including embroidered cloth patches, bullion wire tabs, and metal badges, primarily representing West German and French forces from the mid-to-late 20th century. French Foreign Legion (Legion Etrangere) items include an embroidered red-on-black shoulder title arc, a diamond-shaped unit patch featuring a yellow flaming grenade on a green and black ground, and a gold-tone metal beret badge with a flaming grenade within a circular wreath. West German Federal Border Guard (Bundesgrenzschutz) components consist of a shoulder title arc, a silver-white embroidered sleeve eagle, and two circular Edelweiss patches for mountain units, with one inscribed Grenzschutzbergfuhrer. Also included is a horizontal green cloth insignia featuring a central eagle and oak leaf wreath. Bundeswehr (modern German armed forces) items feature a metal paratrooper qualification badge with a diving eagle and small national flag, two pairs of cloth collar tabs (Litzen) in silver-white on olive and dark green, and an embroidered paratrooper mountain unit patch. Historical German-style items include an embroidered breast eagle on a black backing, a small stamped metal Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD) pin with a swastika and spade, and a Luftwaffe-style specialty patch featuring an aircraft within a cogwheel. The group is completed by a silver-toned oak leaf wreath cockade and three small metal rank pips. Construction materials include machine-embroidered cotton and synthetic threads, silver bullion wire, and various base metals.

Metal paratrooper badge: Approximately 2 inches wide. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos. Pickup is Wednesday, July 15, from Noon to 5 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
