Description
This diverse collection of mid-western ephemera and collectibles is anchored by a rare artist’s pigment case from The Ault & Wiborg Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio. The folding black case contains approximately 24 glass vials of dry pigments, including “India Red,” “Belfast Green,” and “Naples Blue,” many retaining original corks and labels. A significant sports memorabilia highlight is a leatherette autograph book containing a hand-signed inscription from Cincinnati Reds pitcher Johnny Vander Meer, reading “Hi Danny Johnny Vander Meer.” Fraternal history is represented by a maroon wool Syrian Shriners fez featuring yellow “Syrian” embroidery, a bejeweled sphinx-and-scimitar emblem, and a long black tassel with a rhinestone-studded slide. Scouting items include a green merit badge sash with a “Cincinnati” rocker, troop number “309,” and a “Honey-Bees” patch alongside numerous merit badges. Additional items include an advertising thermometer for Blong’s Store at 16 Mile Stand, two 1906 copyright comic postcards (“The Old Maid” and “Dear Old Sport”), a wooden accordion-style case containing small religious booklets including “Exodus” and “I. Kings,” three hand-painted folk art wooden figures with feather accents, a liquid-filled compass, and vintage books including “The Flower Book” and William Herbert Carruth’s “Each In His Own Tongue.”.
