Description

World War One Imperial German artillery officer’s lion head sword with ruby red glass eyes. The lion head pommel is the least common type of lion head being “jawless” (made without a lower jaw). Maker stamped beneath the langet, “OTTO MERTENS SOLINGEN’. The spine of the blade is stamped “555”. Crossed cannons on the langet. Shark skin grip and wire are tight with some wear at the high point of the grip. Blade was lightly sharpened. Overall length is 35″ with a 29.5″ blade. Scabbard still retains 90+ percent of the original black paint. Pick up is Sunday, March 29 from 10 am to 4 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
