Cabinet card style photograph taken at an unknown location by F. Head of Mexico, Missouri, at the same time that he was taking photographs at the 2nd Shiloh Battlefield Association Reunion in April 1895. This image features 8 Confederate veterans of Co. H, 4th Alabama Infantry standing outdoors in front of a large columned building and behind two stands of rifles. Two of the men are displaying a large seven star Confederate flag. While the 4th Alabama served in the Eastern Theater during the War, they were from Lauderdale County which borders Tennessee and is in fairly close proximity to Pittsburg Landing. This image is from a group of 17 other Shiloh related images found together. The photographer’s imprint “F. Head Mexico, Mo” is imprinted on the front along with the caption “survivors of Co. H 4th Ala. “Lauderdale Vol. Organized Florence, April 8, 1861 1st engagement (of) Co. 1st Manassas 52 men; 10 killed, 22 wounded.” “Apr. 2 1895.The image itself measures 7″ x 4.5″ and is affixed to an 8″ x 5” mat. Some wear and scuffing to the lower left edge of the mat. The 4th Alabama spent most of its time in service as part of the Army of Northern Virginia in the Eastern Theater, participating in many Eastern battles including 1st Bull Run, Seven Pines, Gaines Mill, Malvern Hill, Sharpsburg – Antietam, 2nd Manassas – 2nd  Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Chickamauga, Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, and Petersburg.  NOTE: This is one of a group of 18 Shiloh Battlefield – Reunion related photograph found together. The other images are listed in lots –  . While this photo is dated and bears a photographer’s imprint, it does not specifically list the location but we believe this to be at the 1895 Shiloh battlefield reunion. We base this on the following; Most of the images are the same size and are mounted on identical mats. The only photographer listed on any of these images which bear photographer imprints is F. Head of Mexico, Missouri. Finally, any of the photos which are dated bear dates from April 1895; the time frame of the reunion. The other 17 photographs all mention Shiloh or a famous location on the battlefield.  Pick up is Sunday, March 29 from 10 am to 4 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
