Civil War CDV photograph of William W. Roller, Co. D, 64th New York Volunteers. The image is singed with browned period ink “Wm W. Roller Co. D 64” .It bears the backmark of “Henry Ulke, 278 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington D.C.”. Roller enlisted as a sergeant on 9/20/1861. He rose through the ranks, becoming a Captain on 11/7/1863. Roller was wounded at the battles of Fair Oaks and Chancellorsville and was mustered out at Petersburg, Virginia on 11/1/1864. The 64th Infantry fought in the 2nd Army Corps for most of its term of service. 173 officers and enlisted men were killed or mortally wounded with heavy casualties sustained at Fair Oaks, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Bristoe Station, and Spotsylvania Court House. Pick up is Sunday, March 29 from 10 am to 4 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
