Description
This collection features an assortment of Division I and III style black glass buttons and dress trimmings, often associated with mourning attire and referred to as French jet. These are buttons and ornamental pieces primarily crafted from molded black glass, with select examples featuring silver or gold luster finishes and enamel paint. One display board is meticulously organized by subject matter, including pictorial motifs such as animals, botanical elements, and mythological figures including Jupiter and Minerva. The second board showcases larger mechanical make-up dress trimmings characterized by intricate openwork, multifaceted surfaces, and geometric or radial designs. Construction techniques include molded glass with metal shanks and possible gutta-percha components.
