Description

This collection of buttons is presented on a salesman sample display board titled LIVERY LADIES LOZENGE. The assortment includes various metal buttons in silver-toned, gilt, and brass finishes. The buttons feature intricate heraldic designs, including coats of arms, crests, and mottos such as Sed Ultra Quero, Non Sibi, and Semper Fidelis. Several examples utilize the lozenge shape characteristic of female heraldry. Handwritten notations on the board identify various London-based makers and addresses, including Doughty and Co. of 103 St. Martins Lane, Walter Williams, John Walters of 16 Madox St., and Richard of 21 Bouverie St. One button featuring a Tudor rose crest is housed separately in a plastic sleeve with accompanying research notes.
