Description
Powers On. This lot features a mid-20th-century wood lathe produced by the Delta Manufacturing Co. under the Homecraft brand and later the Delta Division of Rockwell Manufacturing Co. The lathe consists of a cast iron bed, headstock, and adjustable tailstock. It is mounted to a custom-built multi-tier wooden workbench designed for workshop utility. The machine is driven by a stepped-pulley belt system connected to an electric motor.
The headstock features a circular red and silver badge reading HOMECRAFT DELTA MILWAUKEE THE DELTA MFG. CO. MILWAUKEE, WIS. A secondary rectangular identification plate on the lathe bed includes the text SERIAL NO. 66-9835 DELTA DIVISION ROCKWELL MANUFACTURING CO. MILWAUKEE 1, WISCONSIN MADE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The accompanying electric motor is fitted with a plate identifying it as a CRAFT-MASTER MOTOR by CRAFTMASTER PRODUCTS, BEDFORD, OH.
The lathe is equipped with a three-jaw chuck and a tool rest assembly. The wooden stand includes a built-in tool rack holding a collection of large-diameter twist drill bits and a pair of metal calipers. An articulating task lamp with a metal bell-shaped shade is mounted to the rear of the bench. A six-outlet power strip is attached to the front right leg of the stand.
