Description
This large decorative sculpture is composed of an off-white cast composite material, likely resin or bonded marble, depicting a classical Roman biga. The dynamic composition features a Roman warrior in a plumed galea helmet and flowing cloak standing within an ornate chariot while pulling back on the reins of two rearing horses. The chariot is decorated with molded scrollwork and features a wheel with a central lion mask hub. The sculpture is mounted on an integral rectangular plinth decorated with a recessed Greek key or meander border. The signature A. Santini is incised into the central support column beneath the horses. The reins are composed of a separate, applied white twisted cord.
12 x 14.5 x 5 inches. Pickup is Friday, July 31, from Noon to 7 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item. Condition report:
The sculpture appears to be in good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or evidence of repair. There is some light surface dust and minor accumulation in the recessed areas of the casting. The applied cord reins are intact.
