July Gallery Auction
Lot 29085:
Description
This is a landscape-orientation souvenir photo album from the mid-20th century, typically associated with military service during the World War II era. The cover is constructed from a textured brown faux-leather or heavy paperboard. The front cover features a large, centrally embossed Great Seal of the United States. The seal is finished in a gold-tone pigment with a multi-colored red, white, and blue shield. The eagle is depicted holding an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, with a glory of stars above its head. Encircling the central motif is the embossed text: THE GREAT SEAL OF THE UNITED STATES. The album is bound at the left margin with a braided brown cord passed through three brass-reinforced eyelets. The interior contains multiple heavy-weight black paper pages. These pages exhibit adhesive residue and remnants of black paper photo corners, as well as silhouetted ghosting where original photographs were previously mounted. There are no photographs or documents currently contained within the album. Pickup is Friday, July 31, from Noon to 7 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Condition report:
The album is in good vintage condition consistent with age and previous use. The exterior covers show surface scuffing, minor bumping at the corners, and general edge wear. The cord binding and brass eyelets remain intact and functional. Interior pages are secure but show evidence of original photograph removal, including adhesive marking and photo corner fragments.
