Description

This six-lobed floral pincushion is an example of Haudenosaunee style raised beadwork. The front face is constructed of red fabric embellished with clear glass seed beads in textured floral and vine motifs. Dark glass bugle beads are used as central accents within the beaded flowers. The reverse is made of tan fabric which extends to form a ruffled perimeter, finished with a single row of clear seed beads. This type of work was commonly produced by Iroquois artists in the late 19th to early 20th centuries as souvenir items.
