Description
Original U.S. WWII-era Army Air Forces Food Tray Galley, Model FTG-3-1, designed and manufactured by The Tappan Stove Co. in Mansfield, Ohio. This portable galley unit was used to store and warm meals for aircrews on long-range bombers and transport aircraft. The unit is constructed of metal with a standard military olive drab green painted exterior. It features a two-compartment design consisting of a top accessory storage area accessed by a latching lid with a lock cylinder, and a main lower food compartment with a front-opening door secured by a heavy-duty latch and a thick rubber gasket. The interior is lined with unpainted metal. The exterior includes two distinct power inlet ports for 27 Volt and 115 Volt operation.
The main identification plate is marked FOOD TRAY GALLEY MODEL FTG-3-1 DESIGNED BY THE TAPPAN STOVE CO. MANSFIELD, OHIO. A contents plate is present, listing the original kit components. A stencil on the interior of the main door reads DO NOT PLACE IN WATER. The top of the unit is stenciled with the number 2641. This unit includes a heavy-duty cloth-wrapped extension cord with vintage plugs, several glass drinking tubes, and two metal pouring spouts.
