Description

This collection of hardcover historical volumes focuses primarily on the American West, the Civil War, and early American colonization. A significant portion of the collection is dedicated to George Armstrong Custer and the Battle of the Little Bighorn, including works such as Custer by Larry McMurtry (Simon & Schuster), The Last Stand: Custer, Sitting Bull, and the Battle of the Little Bighorn by Nathaniel Philbrick (Viking), and Son of the Morning Star by Evan S. Connell (North Point Press). Other titles in this category include The Custer Reader edited by Paul Andrew Hutton (University of Nebraska Press), Death at the Little Bighorn by Phillip Thomas Tucker, and The Little Bighorn Campaign by Wayne Michael Sarf. The collection also features broad historical overviews such as The West: An Illustrated History by Geoffrey C. Ward with a preface by Stephen Ives and Ken Burns (Little, Brown and Company). Civil War history is represented by Pickett’s Charge in History & Memory by Carol Reardon (University of North Carolina Press), Gray Ghosts of the Confederacy by Richard S. Brownlee (Louisiana State University Press), and Civil War Curiosities by Webb Garrison (Rutledge Hill Press). Early American history and exploration are covered in Lewis & Clark by Dayton Duncan and Ken Burns (Alfred A. Knopf), The Mayflower by Rebecca Fraser (St. Martin’s Press), and The Journey to the Mayflower by Stephen Tomkins (Pegasus). The books are mostly octavo and quarto in format, bound in publisher’s cloth or paper-covered boards. Most volumes retain their original pictorial dust jackets. The Lewis & Clark volume is bound in maroon cloth with blind-stamped decorative borders. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos.
