Description
A comprehensive group of personal military effects belonging to R.P. Mason, whose service history spans the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War era. The collection includes a pair of tropical combat boots featuring black leather construction with olive drab canvas uppers and instep drainage vents. A U.S. M17 Protective Mask is included with its original canvas field carrier, which is stamped MASK, PROTECTIVE, FIELD ABC-M17 and hand-inscribed with the name MASON. The lot contains a large olive drab canvas duffel bag stamped U.S. with integrated shoulder straps. Ephemera consists of a partially used Armed Forces Traffic Ticket book, DD Form 1408, dated December 1, 1962, with handwritten notes identifying the owner as Sp4 R.P. Mason of the Military Police at Camp Johnson. A single stainless steel dog tag is present, stamped for R.P. Mason with service number 276500271 and USMC branch designation. Insignia includes multiple olive drab name and branch tapes for MASON and U.S. ARMY, black cloth epaulette slides with gold-tone Sergeant and Specialist embroidery, and a selection of pin-on items. Notable pins include three 2nd Engineer Battalion unit crests with the motto STRAIGHT STALWART AND STRONG and two 1st Battalion, 8th Artillery unit crests with the motto FIRE FOR EFFECT. Additional brass collar disks for U.S. and Field Artillery are present, alongside various subdued and polished rank pins for Sergeant and Specialist 4.
