July Military Auction
Lot 25175:
Description
This is a WWII-era US Army Ordnance Department tool chest specifically designed for the maintenance of M5 and M6 anti-aircraft fire control directors. The chest is constructed of heavy-gauge steel with a traditional olive drab green paint finish. It features a peaked barn-top lid secured by three draw-bolt latches, with the center latch designed for a locking mechanism. The lid is stenciled in yellow/white paint with the text CHEST, TOOL DIRECTORS, M5 and M6. A heavy-duty dark composition handle is attached to the top via metal brackets. The interior of the lid retains its original paper Table of Contents label, which lists various specialized tools including drive pin punches, ball-peen hammers, aligning pins, specialized screwdrivers, and J.H. Williams socket wrenches along with their respective military drawing numbers. The chest contains fixed vertical steel dividers in the bottom for tool organization and includes a removable metal tray featuring one long compartment and five smaller divided sections.
