Description
A United States Navy Mk II Talker helmet accompanied by a Western Electric communication headset assembly. The helmet is constructed from a non-magnetic manganese steel shell finished in a textured gray non-reflective paint. This specialized model features an oversized, flared design intended to provide clearance for sound-powered telephone headsets. The interior contains a fixed suspension system with a leather forehead pad and a leather chinstrap equipped with a chin cup. The inner rim of the helmet features the hand-lettered transcription U.S. NAVY in black ink.
The communication assembly includes a chest-mounted transmitter on a metal framework, wiring, and stethoscopic-style earpieces. The transmitter base plate is stamped WESTERN ELECTRIC MADE IN U.S.A. D173213 and features a red circular inspection stamp reading 7Z G299. The rubberized junction block is embossed CD-620-U and U-33-SH, with a stamped moisture-fungus proofing treatment mark M.F.P. JUN 45. The headset terminates in a Switchcraft LTT1EL jack plug.
