Description

United States Marine Corps (USMC) Officer forest green wool service visor cap, frequently referred to as a barracks cover. This mid-20th century military headgear features a forest green wool body and a polished black leather visor. The black leather chin strap is secured by two metal USMC officer service buttons. These buttons depict an eagle with spread wings perched upon a fouled anchor, surrounded by stars and a rope-pattern border. The front of the cap contains a single hole intended for the mounting of a screw-post Eagle, Globe, and Anchor (EGA) insignia. Two metal ventilation grommets are located on the sides. The interior features a russet-colored leather sweatband with decorative diamond-pattern embossing and a dark green rayon or silk lining. The cap is currently missing its internal stiffening frame, resulting in a soft, unstructured shape often associated with field use.
