July Military Auction
Lot 24941:
Description
This US Army summer-weight service tunic is constructed from khaki-colored cotton twill in a chino style. The garment features a high stand-up collar, which was the standard military specification until 1926. The tunic is designed with a five-button front closure and four pleated bellows-style patch pockets, each featuring a button-down flap. Shoulder loops are present and secured by smaller buttons. The cuffs are decorated with a single horizontal band of ribbed khaki-colored braid, a detail typically denoting officer-grade summer uniforms of this period. The reverse of the coat shows tailored seams designed for a fitted appearance. The buttons are made of blackened bronze and are embossed with the Great Seal of the United States, featuring an eagle with a shield, olive branch, and arrows. Internal markings include the stamped digits 0468 and a faded handwritten ink laundry mark that appears to read W-3175-2.
