Description
This is a United States Marine Corps unit guidon for Company B, 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, likely dating to the World War II era. The flag is constructed from a red coarse-weave bunting fabric, possibly wool or heavy cotton. It features yellow-gold felt or wool appliqued lettering and the Marine Corps Eagle, Globe, and Anchor emblem. These elements are attached to the field using a satin-stitch embroidery method. The design is mirrored on the reverse side. The top center of the flag is marked with the initials F.M.F. denoting the Fleet Marine Force. The center features the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor insignia. The lower left corner is marked with 1 BN over 2 MAR, signifying the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment. The lower right corner displays the letter B identifying the specific company. The hoist end features a simple folded hem for mounting.
