July Military Auction
Lot 24927:
Description
This contemporary custom percussion long rifle is crafted in the traditional Pennsylvania style in .40 caliber. It features a 38-inch browned octagonal barrel manufactured by the Green Mountain Rifle Barrel Co. The stock is fashioned from highly figured tiger maple with a dark, polished finish, accented by an inlaid brass star on the cheekpiece and a decorative, engraved four-piece brass patchbox on the buttstock. Key markings on the barrel include the serial number 70207, the caliber designation .40 CAL, and the Green Mountain manufacturer logo. The rifle is adorned with traditional brass furniture, including a crescent buttplate, a scrolling trigger guard, ramrod thimbles, and a nose cap. The sights consist of a buckhorn rear sight and a white metal blade front sight. A wooden ramrod with a brass tip is housed in the forestock channel. Based on the 36-inch ruler visible in the images, the overall length of the firearm is approximately 54 inches. Action is good.
