Burns March Gallery Auction
Lot 9981:
Description
A collection of ceramic tiki mugs produced by Orchids of Hawaii, identified as model R-72. Each cylindrical vessel is sculpted with a stylized face featuring elongated features, almond-shaped eyes, and prominent lips, reminiscent of Moai statues. The mugs are finished in a glossy, wood-tone brown glaze, with darker accents highlighting the textured, carved-effect surface details. The reverse of the vessels features a repeating pattern of horizontal dash-like indentations. These items are typically associated with mid-century tiki culture and were often manufactured in Japan for various supper clubs and tropical-themed restaurants.
