Description

This blown-glass bowl is a production of the Slade Art Glass studio, created by artist Bill Slade (b. 1953) as part of the Clamshell series. The piece is constructed using a silver-veiled glass technique where each layer is gathered over the previous one, resulting in a form reminiscent of organic sea life. The interior features a translucent yellow-green body with concentric ribbing, a solid blue center, and a rim with coral-toned accents. The exterior is finished in an opaque, matte light blue. The vessel is characterized by an organic, ruffled rim and sits on a heavily textured, shell-like base. Tiny bubbles are present within the glass, consistent with the studio blowing process. The base of the piece bears a rectangular stamped signature reading SLADE. Bill Slade has received numerous awards for his work, and his glass art is represented in the permanent collections of the Ringling Museum of Art and the Corning Museum of Glass.
