Burns March Gallery Auction
Lot 9234B:
Description
This lot consists of two pairs of folding lorgnettes, likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The first pair is crafted from silver-toned metal and features round glass lenses connected by an articulated folding bridge. The handle is decorated with a chased geometric design and linear patterns with a scrollwork motif at the junction, attached to a black grosgrain ribbon via a swivel loop. The second pair is made of gold-toned metal, also featuring round glass lenses and a folding bridge. The handle on this pair displays intricate filigree openwork in a stylized floral or fan pattern and is attached to a black grosgrain ribbon with a small gold-toned sliding bead. Small incised marks are visible on the inner side of the bridges and handles of both items, though they are not clearly legible.
Each lorgnette measures approximately 4 inches in width when fully extended. Burns in-house shipping is available.
