Description

A collection of 19th-century metal buttons, primarily constructed from brass with gilt finishes. The items are presented on a professionally organized display card and feature various relief designs including floral motifs, starbursts, geometric patterns, and scrollwork. Notable manufacturers and distributors identified by typed labels include Scovills & Co., R. & W. Robinson, Smith & Hopkins, Kendrick & Co., and Festus Hayden of Waterbury, CT. The reverse of the card reveals button shanks with legible backmarks and numerical inventory labels such as 3002, 1052, and 3960. Documentation includes a plastic bag labeled Division I. These items are buttons showing characteristics consistent with military and trade use from the post-Civil War era.
