Description
This collection of American Golden Age buttons, dating from circa 1830 to 1850, features various embossed designs in gilt metal and brass. The assortment includes examples with floral patterns, scrolls, grape clusters, and maple leaves, many of which are consistent with military and uniform styles of the period. Several prominent 19th-century manufacturers are represented, with visible backmarks or attributions to Scovilles, Waterbury, Wadhams Webster and Co., D. Evans and Co., Benedict and Burnham, and Kendrick. One example by Wadhams Webster and Co. is specifically dated 1838. The items are mounted on a perforated display board labeled Division I.
