Description

This collection features an assortment of buttons dating from the 1700s, identified by the included labeling as having bone and wood backings. The grouping contains various buttons made from brass and silver-toned metal, with several specimens exhibiting intricate decorative motifs including sunbursts, geometric patterns, floral designs, and basketweave textures. The construction of these pieces is consistent with 18th-century techniques, featuring metal face plates secured over organic bone or wood cores. Some specimens in the collection show characteristics of military or uniform use. The items are individually stored in plastic zip-top bags, and several pieces retain fragments of original thread.
