World War Two circa 1943 recruitment leaflet – flyer for the Flemish Waffen SS Sturmbrigade Langemarck. The front of this leaflet illustrates a Flemish worker, toiling with sledge hammer and anvil under the oppression of capitalism.The text reminds him of the hardships suffered by his forebearers under capitalism and exhorts him to fight as a soldier for his revolution, family, freedom, and better future. The bottom section of the back of the leaflet contains an application to join the Sturmbrigade Langemarck. It directs that applications are accepted at the Ersatzkommando Flandern der Waffen – h, at all Waffen recruitment offices, and at all DeVlag Secreteriats. This flyer measures 6″ x 8.1875″. Overall excellent condition with expected age discoloration. The Waffen SS Flemish Assault Brigade Langemarck was formed in May 1943 on orders from Heinrich Himmler. It was formed from the remnants of the recently disbanded Flemish Legion and other Flemish volunteers. Sturmbrigade Langemarck fought in the Ukraine, Narva, Kurland Pocket, Pomerania and the Oder Front. The unit surrendered to the Soviet Army in the Mecklenburg region of Germany on May 8, 1945.
