Description

World War One 85th “Custer Division” tunic. Tunic is officer quality private purchase made by “J.C. Platt Clothing Co. Fifth Avenue, new York”. Embroidered on felt 85th Division patch, honorable discharge red chevron and one 6 month overseas service bullion chevron sewn to left sleeve. Screw back USNA and Infantry collar discs affixed to collar. A U.S. Victory medal is pinned to the left breast. This tunic has scattered mothing.  The 85th division was first activated  August 25, 1917 at Camp Custer, Michigan. After a year of training the division left the United States for England. From England, the Division’s 339th Regiment was sent to Archangel, Russia to fight along the White Army in the Russian Civil War against Bolshevik forces as part of the Polar Bear Expedition. The rest of the Division was sent to France. Upon their arrival in France as part of the American Expeditionary Forces, the remainder of the division was broken up to support other units. After the war the division remained on occupation duty in Germany Pick up is Sunday, March 29 from 10 am to 4 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
