Description
1/6th plate tintype of a black – African American soldier. Full view standing in front of a tinted patriotic backdrop that is set up on a plank floor. His trousers are tinted blue. There is an ink-like residue on the side of the mat and the right side of the image. We have not attempted to remove this residue or clean this image. This image was acquired from an estate and accompanied by a handmade violin case, violin and a note from the seller. The violin, case, and note are listed in LOT 176. The note reads, “This box (violin case) was made by the gentleman in the tintype and given to Jenny. Jenny was household help of some kind and lived with the Fury family. She came west with this family from Carlisle Barracks in PA. She lived with the family until her death in Denver. The fury girl (Alice) married Roe Buchanan”. Pick up is Sunday, March 29 from 10 am to 4 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
