Albumen photograph of the flags of the 5th New York Heavy Artillery published by the 5h New York Heavy Artillery Veteran Association that was founded in 1878.  The photograph itself is 8.625″ x 6.375″ and is affixed to a 10″ x 12″ heavy cardstock mount. The image itself is in excellent condition. There is minor wear and chipping to the mount.  A significant portion of the 5th NY was formed in New York City but recruits joined from numerous counties throughout New York state as well as from Ohio and New Jersey. The regiment lost 161 men captured on 9/15/1862 at Harper’s Ferry during the Antietam campaign and another 220 captured at Cedar Creek 10/19/1864. Almost 80 of these POWs died in Confederate prisons. Additionally, 90 men were killed or mortally wounded throughout the course of the war with large casualties suffered at  battles in Virginia including Piedmont, Lynchburg, Halltown, Winchester, and Snicker’s Gap.  Pick up is Sunday, March 29 from 10 am to 4 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
