Burns March Military Auction
Lot 101:
Description
Francis Bannerman – Bannerman’s Military Goods display escutcheon featuring a M1859 Cavalry carbine socket mounted by wire to a wooden display board. Bannerman further enhanced these boards with the addition of 4 issue shako chin strap buttons. He originally marketed many of these in his early catalogs as match holders by attaching a wooden disk to the bottom of the leather socket. This particular carbine socket still retains the inspector’s stampings ” D.C.L.” and “C.H.C.” on the strap. The display still retains the original wood and brass attachment strip on the back for hanging on a wall. Measures 8.5″ x 9.62″. Overall very good condition with a small area of wood loss on the bottom left corner.
