February Gallery Auction
Lot 7815:
Description
Collection of individually packaged lots of raw and processed gemstones intended for lapidary work or jewelry manufacturing. The collection comprises small plastic zip-top bags and a clear plastic rectangular box containing rough material. The primary material is turquoise, exhibiting a wide range of colors from pale mint green to saturated sky blue, frequently displaying natural brown or black matrix veining. The processed pieces include polished cabochons in shapes such as oval, freeform, and teardrop, as well as smaller tumbled pieces. Many of the individual bags contain handwritten commercial inventory notations (e.g., PRO, VM, three-digit numbers). lots also contain dark, opaque black or grey cabochons of an unidentified secondary stone type, mixed with the turquoise pieces. The clear plastic box contains rough, unprocessed slabs and chunks of turquoise material suitable for cutting. The visual characteristics of the material are consistent with turquoise sourced from Southwestern US deposits, such as those referenced in market intelligence (Sonoran, Kingman).
